If meeting characters is high on your Disneyland Paris priority list, the Virtual Queue system is something you need to understand before you arrive. The Disneyland Paris Virtual Queue lets you hold your place in line digitally for select meet and greets, freeing your family up to enjoy rides and parades instead! The system is free but highly competitive and it can feel confusing at first, especially when slots disappear in seconds. Once you understand how it works, it’s actually quite straightforward. We’ve used extensively since it rolled out in 2022, so here’s everything you need to know to give yourself the best chance of getting a spot.
Virtual Queue in 30 Seconds
- Opens at 9:45 AM and 2:00 PM
- Anna and Elsa currently have an additional 8:45 AM Virtual Queue drop for Extra Magic Time guests
- Guests must be scanned into the park and remain inside the park
- Guests are only allowed one booking at a time
- No standby line
- Popular meet and greets fill in seconds

What Is the Virtual Queue System?
The best way I can describe a virtual queue is as a digital waiting line. You join through the official Disneyland Paris app, select the guests in your group, and receive an estimated return time. Until your slot opens, you are free to enjoy the parks without queuing physically outside the meet-and-greet location.
Disneyland Paris debuted the system at the Hero Training Center in Avengers Campus in 2022, and it has gradually expanded to multiple character locations. It is only in place at a select group of popular meet-and-greets.
One essential point is that virtual queue locations do not offer standby lines. If all slots are taken for the day, you will not be able to meet that character in that location, which is why understanding the process is especially important.

Virtual Queue Characters
Demand for the virtual queues varies but the hardest to secure at Anna and Elsa in World of Frozen and the Princess Pavilion. These usually fill up within seconds, particularly during school holidays and peak travel periods. Mickey Mouse is also popular and Jack Skellington is also incredibly popular at Halloween and Christmas as is Santa Claus during the festive period.
Character availability changes with seasons and events, so checking the app during your visit is essential.
Disneyland Park
- Meet Mickey Mouse in Fantasyland
- The Princess Pavilion in Fantasyland, with guests meeting one princess per visit and discovering who it is only upon arrival.
- Starport where guests meet a Star Wars character – it’s usually Darth Vader but we’ve had Chewbacca and Rey recently.
- Seasonal virtual queue characters, including Santa Claus and Jack Skellington
Disney Adventure World
- Spider-Man Heroic Encounter in the Hero Training Center
- Marvel Super Hero Heroic Encounter at the Hero Training Center offers encounters with a rotating selection of Avengers. Guests discover who it is upon meeting the Super Hero.
- Anna and Elsa at Rencontre Royale in World of Frozen
- Zootopia’s Nick meets in Animation Celebration

When Virtual Queues Open
Virtual queue slots are released twice per day at 9:45 AM and 2:00 PM.
Virtual Queue tip: The Elsa and Anna meet and greet in World of Adventure has an extra release at 8:45 AM during Extra Magic Time. This will only be available to guests who have access to the parks during Extra Magic Time

These release moments are the only real opportunities to secure a booking for that day (although you might occasionally pick up a cancellation), which means timing is critical. To improve your chances, it helps to be in the app a few minutes early and be ready to click through when slots are released.
We recommend setting an alarm a couple of minutes prior to the release times.
How the Return Time Works
After securing a booking in the app you’ll get an estimated wait time. This is just an estimate and may change but we’ve generally found that it is accurate. Closer to your meet, you will receive a notification that your return window is approaching.
Once your time activates, you usually have a maximum of 10 or so minutes to arrive at the location – this grace period hasn’t been confirmed so we have always made sure to arrive close to when the counter hits zero.

While Cast Members may allow brief grace periods depending on conditions, it is always best to arrive as close to your return time as possible to avoid missing your opportunity.
Our Method for Booking a Virtual Queue Step-by-Step
We’ve been using the virtual queue system since it started in 2022 and have a system for maximising your chances of securing a virtual queue spot.

The entire process can take under 10 seconds on busy days, which is why preparation makes such a difference. This is a speed game, not a luck game. The faster you click, the better your chances.
Here’s the method we use to secure our Virtual Queue slots
- Save the meet and greet as a favourite in the Disneyland Paris app (this makes it quicker to get to the booking screen)

- Try not to use the Disneyland park wifi, use your phone network as it’s more reliable at the drops. The park wifi tends to get overloaded at the drop times and can delay the app.
- Have the app on the “Join the queue” screen as you wait for the drop. It helps to know exactly where your virtual queue meet is on the next screen and where you have to scroll to.
- Use a secondary phone to monitor the time (through a website like timeanddate.com) to time the drop. Wait until the official time hits the release time and then start to click through.
- Quickly select your meet and greet (it should be a dark blue button), select your party on the next screen and join the queue.
- If you’re successful you’ll get a confirmation screen with an estimated wait time. We recommend taking a screenshot of the reservation.
If character meets are a priority, it is realistic to aim for one booking at the 9:45 AM release and another at 2:00 PM on the same day
On our most recent visit (April 2026) we were able to get 3 or 4 meet and greets most days – the Anna and Elsa drop at 8.45 AM was realtively easy to secure followed by a 9.45 AM and the 2 PM. It was also possible to pick up a Spider-Man, Star Wars or Marvel Super Hero meet and greet in between if we had a quick return time on the original drops. During our week there, we did 5 Princess Meet and Greets and met Mickey Mouse, Dr Strange, Black Widow, Darth Vader, Rey and Anna and Elsa!
Tips
Where possible, have the second person start to click through after they monitor the time as the second person can try if your first attempt fails.
Make sure to familiarise yourself with the screen sequence as it’s crucial you click through as fast as you can – it’s the only real differentiator between the thousands of guests attempting to secure a Virtual Queue slot.
A strong mobile data signal tends to be more reliable than park WiFi, and it helps to have the app open and ready on the correct screen before the release time hits. I always suggest turning off Wi-Fi at 9:43 AM and 1:58PM so your phone doesn’t try to switch to a different WiFi network right as you hit the button.
Key Rules for the Virtual Queue
- Each guest must have scanned into the park prior to the Virtual Queue opening – it can be easy to miss scanning in someone if you are scanning in multiple guests at the same time. I find this when I’m scanning in my 3 children so I always double-check!
- Only one active booking can be held at a time. You must complete your current meet before joining another Virtual Queue, even for a different character.
- Each virtual queue character location can only be booked once per day, even if slots appear again later.
- A maximum of six guests can be included in a single booking, meaning larger groups must split. If you are travelling as a group, make sure everyone is linked in the app before the drop time. Trying to add people during booking will slow you down and you may lose your slot.
- Children under three do not need to be inluded on the reservation and can join without issue.
- Priority Pass access does not apply to virtual queue character meets, meaning all guests book through the same system regardless of access needs.
- You can cancel a Virtual Queue reservation at any time on the Disneyland Paris app.
You might only get one Virtual Queue
We’ve come across this a few times now where we’ve secured a really popular meet and greet, like the Princess Pavilion, at the 9:45 AM drop and been given a return time after 2:00 PM. If that happens, you won’t be able to join the 2:00 PM drop, as you can only hold one Virtual Queue at a time. It’s frustrating, but it’s just how the system works — and something to keep in mind when setting expectations for the day.
What to Do if You Don’t Get a Virtual Queue Spot
If you miss out on a virtual queue spot, firstly don’t panic! There are still many ways to see the characters. We generally don’t tell our kids about the virtual queues until after we
- Mickey Mouse meets just outside Phantom Manor and he also has a new meet and greet over on Adventure Way in Disney Adventure World.
- Belle is currently meeting in her blue and white Village outfit in Fantasyland.

Princess alternatives include dining at Auberge de Cendrillon and Regal View Restaurant, encounters in the Disneyland Hotel for hotel guests, occasional outdoor princess meets, and parade appearances.
Many other characters continue to meet guests using traditional queues across both parks, and these are visible in the app.
Dealing with Virtual Queue Issues
If the app crashes during booking, reopen it immediately, as slots often remain available for a short time. To find your reservation, check the My Plans section or use your screenshot as proof. If you arrive late to your return window, approach the Cast Member politely, as flexibility varies depending on capacity and crowd levels.
Our Take on the Virtual Queue System
The virtual queue system does not guarantee access and can feel competitive during busy periods, but it does prevent you from standing in multi-hour physical queues. Once you understand how it works, it becomes straightforward to use. Success depends on preparation, timing, and often luck. Treat it as a planning tool rather than a promise, and remember that character meets are only one part of the Disneyland Paris experience. Many of the most memorable moments often come from spontaneous encounters, shows, and rides that were never planned in advance.
